Special Book for Omma and Appa

One of our friends, Kim, is traveling to Korea soon to bring him her daughter, and we're delighted that she is able to bring Rai's birth mother and Omma and Appa a package. Rai was so excited that we made Omma and Appa a special book with pictures, his art from school, and a voice recording where he explains everything.

With all the excitement about sending this package, he started playing with Horsey (his stuffed horse we sent in a care package while he was in Korea).

Pre-Kindergarten Talent Show

Rai's class had a Talent Show this morning, and Rai decided he wanted to dance. He can be very shy at times, but he has always loved to dance! I remember when they came home from Korea and stopped whatever he was doing to dance when he heard the music his Omma gave him.

Nothing has changed. He still loves to dance. He was certainly nervous this morning, but he was very brave and did a great job!

Here is a video of his dancing when he practiced last week:

I will post a video of this morning's show soon!

Science Fair 2012

It is that time of year again for science fair projects!

This year, Rai decided to try a baking project.  His first choice was digging dinosaur bones, but the closest child-friendly fossil dig site is 2 1/2 hours away.  Instead, he chose to learn about baking with eggs.  We have a favorite brownie recipe that gives you 2 options: 2 eggs for fudge-like brownies and 3 eggs for cake-like brownies.  I've always made the fudge-like since Tony isn't a fan of eggs, but we turned a fun project.

To avoid Wikipedia, we used an online encyclopedia and a few online videos to learn about:
  • The types of eggs people eat,
  • How chicken eggs are collected,
  • What an egg looks like on the inside, and
  • Why we use eggs in cooking
I usually buy the "Cage Free, Free-Range" chicken eggs at the store, but it was interesting to see what the difference was between the regular, industrial conditions the cheaper eggs come from and the cage-free variations.  Apparently, "Cage Free" only means a little more room than the non-cage-free.  Only a few places actually have the open areas for hens to roam and the choices for food/water from which I expected these eggs to come.

Rai's Camera

We found Rai's camera the other day and realized he still had pictures from last September. Here are a few pictures from Rai's perspective.

Animal School

Rai has decided the Baby Doggy, Big Eyes (the lemur Tony got Rai for Valentine's Day), and Baby Bear (the bear I got Rai for Valentine's Day) need to go to school. He asks me to drop them off at animal school after he goes to school and asks them about their day after I pick him up.
